Presidential Election Campaigns

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, takes on this opportunity to thank all party members, well-wishers, the media fraternity, Government of Rwanda, the International community, the Global Greens Family and the public for the different support accorded to the party during 2017.

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda scored highly during 2017. It was the year, when all consolidated achievements, since its formation in August 2009, were put at display.

In March, the party held its national congress, where it approved the party’s political program and manifesto and subsequently its flag bearer for the upcoming Presidential elections. This was not an easy achievement, it required physical presence of party delegates from all the 30 districts of the country.

In June, the party’s flag bearer, Dr.Frank Habineza, presented the presidential candidature dossier to the National Electoral Commission and was later approved as a Presidential candidate. The party was able to successfully campaign in all the 30 districts of the country, from 14th July to 2nd August, although some challenges were faced in some places, hope was never lost. The results of the elections were not pleasing as had been expected but were accepted for the greater good of the Republic.

In October, after a short break from the elections, the party resumed its activities and has been holding meetings and trainings in different parts of the country in preparation for the upcoming Parliamentary elections, planned in September 2018.

DGPR has therefore, been able to select aspiring parliamentary candidates from 15 districts as by end of December 2017. These are: Ruhango, Gicumbi, Nyamasheke, Nyamagabe, Muhanga, Musanze, Rusizi, Bugesera, Nyaruguru, Gatsibo, Ngoma, Nyabihu, Kayonza, Rwamagana and Nyanza. We hope to finalise the remaining 15 districts in the first half of 2018 and thereafter submit the party list to the National Electoral Commission.

We would like to request local authorities to stop different types of harassment to our members, whom are still looked at as enemies of the state. We would like to remind them that being in opposition does not qualify us as enemies of the state.

On behalf of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, we wish to thank you all for standing with us.

Please accept our sincere best wishes to you and your families for a wonderful holiday season and a very prosperous New Year 2018.

Done on 29th December 2017

Dr.Frank Habineza

President, Democratic Green Party of Rwanda
