The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda started 2018 with serious preparations for the Parliamentary elections that took place in September. Pre-campaign activities included several district level party congresses where members nominated two parliamentary candidates both female and male from each of the 30 districts in the country.
A national congress was later held in June and a confirmed list of parliamentary candidates was approved as well as the party’s manifesto for the elections.
During the September elections the Party was able to score 5 percent of the national vote and obtained two seats in Parliament.
Our experience in parliament for the last few months has been interesting, notably realizing that fellow MPs from other political organisations were accommodative to alternative and opposing views.
We, therefore, extend our gratitude to all our party members, well-wishers, the media fraternity, Government of Rwanda, the International community, the Global Greens Family and the public for standing with us during the year 2018.
The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda wishes you all a peaceful and prosperous New Year 2019.
Done on 31st December 2018
Dr.Frank Habineza
President, Democratic Green Party of Rwanda
