Call on President Kagame to Accord Immediate Justice and Diffuse National Tensions

Mr. President,

As Commander-in-Chief of all armed forces, Head of State-sworn in to protect the Rwandan constitution, state institutions and Rwandan people, we urgently call upon you to use all your powers and accord immediate justice to many suffering Rwandans in prisons and outside prisons, and also help diffuse the growing political and military tension in the country.

Democratic Green Party of Rwanda’s Stand on Crimes against Humanity

During the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis, the regime in power also targeted political opponents from other tribes. Many more people (Hutus) were killed.

The then rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front/Army (RPF/A) was fighting with Government Soldiers. Some RPA soldiers killed innocent civilians. It was not RPF policy to kill HUTUS.

The RPA soldiers who killed people were severely punished and some evidences are available. It may be possible that not all were punished. Investigations can be made and those who committed crimes against humanity be brought to book.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY AND CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS ON THE REGISTRATION STRUGGLE OF THE DEMOCRATIC GREEN PARTY OF RWANDA

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda was publicly launched on 14th August 2009 at Hotel Laico (Ex-Novotel) Kigali, in presence of Rwandans, local and international media. Several diplomatic missions accredited to Rwanda were also present. The first anniversary is due in just five days ahead. The Government of Rwanda made it very difficult for the party to get registered. It was therefore blocked from submitting a presidential candidate in today’s elections.

EU condemns Rwandan opposition figure’s murder

(BRUSSELS) - The European Union condemned on Friday the murder of a senior opposition official in Rwanda and urged authorities to clarify the circumstances of the "horrific" killing.

"The European Union firmly condemns the brutal murder of M. Andre Kagwa Rwisereka, Vice President of the Rwandan Democratic Green Party on 13 July," the office of EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton said in a statement.
