DGPR sets Conditions for Participating in 2017 Presidential Elections

The Political Bureau of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, during its meeting on 5th March 2016 in Kigali, decided that it will not participate in the upcoming Presidential elections, if the Government of Rwanda does not respond to its demands for political and electoral reforms.

DGPR submitted its petition to the Rwandan Parliament on 10th February 2016, but till now, it has received no response. The opposition Party also decided that it will make a people’s peaceful match and visit to the Rwandan Parliament soon in order to clarify its positions to the members of Parliament.

DGPR Calls for Political and Electoral Reforms from the Rwandan Parliament

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda has today, the 10th of February 2016, submitted its petition to the Rwandan Parliament, calling for revisions in the national election laws and the political parties Act. These political reforms are needed before the 2017 Presidential Elections and the 2018 Parliamentary elections and would enable a level playing field.

Rwanda Referendum 2015: The Opposition would have won

Rwandans have casted their votes in a national referendum aimed at maintaining the incumbent President to be elected for three more presidential terms. The National Electoral commission has announced victory for that constitutional change.

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda takes note of the referendum results. However, the manner in which the election was held did not guarantee a level playing field, since the cabinet issued a one-week short notice for the referendum to be conducted, this would not be enough time for a meaningful campaign.

DGPR Leaders Met with Rwandan Internal Security Minister on Munyeshyaka’s Disappearance

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda’s top leadership today met with the Rwandan Minister of Internal Security, Sheik Musa Fazil Harerimana at his offices in Kigali. DGPR’s President in accompany with the First Vice President and the Secretary General discussed with the Interior Minister, issues concerning the disappearance of DGPR’s National Organising Secretary, Jean Damascene Munyeshyaka, who has not been seen in public since 27th June 2014. The Minister promised to expedite the investigations and to give the case its due priority.

DGPR has Established Party Structures in Some Districts and Provinces and Finalised Leadership Trainings.

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda is pleased to inform members of the media and the general public that it has established some party structures in four districts and Women Greens committees in four provinces. It has also concluded party leadership training for both women leaders and party members.

Democratic Green Party of Rwanda has Raised its Party Flag at the National Forum of Political Parties in Rwanda

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda has raised its Party flag, today, 14th  April 2014, at the National Consultative Forum of Political Organisations in Rwanda.

DGPR was officially accepted as the eleventh member into the National Political Parties Forum on 3rd April 2014. The Party was established on 14th August 2009 and officially registered on 9th August 2013.

Preamble

We, the founding members of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda require the Government of Rwanda to operate within the limits set forth in the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

 

As Green Democrats, we believe:

Non-violence and peaceful means of conflict resolution are the best solutions to national problems.

DGPR will not Participate in the Upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

The newly registered Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, wishes to inform the general public that, it will not be able to participate in the September 2013 parliamentary elections.

The party finds it not possible to have all the necessary requirements for the upcoming parliamentary elections, given the set deadline to submit the list of candidates.

DGPR will prepare for the local elections in 2016 and the presidential elections in 2017.

Democratic Green Party of Rwanda has officially been Registered.

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda is pleased to inform all its party members, well-wishers, members of the media and the general public that it has finally received its registration certificate from Rwanda Governance Board, today, 9th August 2013.

This is a very important step forward in the democratisation process of Rwanda. The struggle to get the party registered has taken four years. The Party was officially launched on 14th August 2009 and journey has been very tough.
